2019 looks like the year Cebu finally gets to enjoy more cups of specialty coffee. The opening of two specialty coffee shops, The Good Cup Coffee and Tightrope Coffee, late last year gives us the opportunity to learn more about the art of standard gourmet coffee.

Recently had the chance to visit Tightrope Coffee and I love how it’s tucked in an adjacent corner of the very busy F. Cabahug street, so whenever I feel escaping the traffic, I’ll just swing by Pres. Quezon street for a coffee fix.

One of the best feelings when walking in a coffee shop is getting treated to smell of fresh brew. The moment I found a seat at the counter, inches away was a barista doing a pour over of a seasonal coffee blend made from Herbazu Costa Rica grounds – delivering a roasty zesty fruity aroma. And the next thing I’ve noticed was the chic black pearl granite counter which accentuated the silver and black espresso machine beautifully, and the copper pour over coffee dripper with the glass pot elegantly gave me the impression of how serious Tightrope is in making their coffee.

I ordered a flat white (espresso with microfoam). I personally prefer flat white over a latte as it has a higher proportion of coffee to milk, thus giving a better caffeine kick. Tightrope’s flat white starts with a foamy milky hint and ends up with a naturally coffee sweet, lightly sharp taste. I like it!

The next time I swing by, I’ll make sure to try the floral and citrusy specialty blend of Santa Rosa El Salvador beans.
