It’s no secret that I love milk tea (MT), and I have always been on the lookout for new boba shops in Cebu, specially here in Mactan where you can still count the good places to get your MT fix with one hand.
Y.E.L.O. Boba Shop just opened their first store in Gaisano Grand Mall Mactan and the brand looks promising. Clean white walls and good lighting make the room look bigger than it actually is. Its minimalist approach gives out a classy chic vibe – a good way to attract passersby to get curious and go inside the store.
Approaching the beach wood and granite counter to choose a drink, the list of house specialty beverages is set on the white wall behind the counter, and the other drinks on a board beside the cashier. Get to know more about the drinks by reading cue posters on the left side wall. I’ve noticed that they put in extra effort for the customers to be able to double check their orders and the bill. Very thoughtful!
I ordered the Classic Milk Tea with boba (P95+P15 = P110), made with fresh milk and premium tea brew with zero sugar. Like any other milk tea shops, you can customize the sweetness and ice levels. What sets Y.E.L.O. Boba Shop from many other milk tea places is their promise to serve with premium teas, real ingredients and no artificial flavors for every cup!
Y.E.L.O. brings in the ‘American Hipster MT’ concept to Cebu, giving this well-loved drink a cooler and healthier demeanor. All the beverages were concocted in San Francisco, and debuted to the public here in Mactan Cebu last week.
My first sip of the Y.E.L.O. Classic MT, it gave out a straightforward taste – milk + tea, but creamier than most of the MT houses I’ve tried with a good hint of tea. The boba was soft and chewy that’s comparable to a gummy bear candy.
I probably should try it with full sugar on, as they use the local muscovado sugar to sweeten their black pearls. Sounds really good!
I can’t wait to try the other intriguing Y.E.L.O. drink selections on my next visit as well!
Thai Milk Tea is one of my favorite drinks, and Y.E.L.O. has their own version made with Thai tea ground from Chiang Mai Thailand which gives out an orange color from its components – black tea, star anise, crushed tamarind and cardamon.
The Butterfly Pea Latte which is made with blue tea, which is sourced in Chiang Mai as well. This caffeine-free herbal tea drink is created from an infusion of flower petals of clitoria ternatea plant. An interesting fact about this tea is that it changes color depending on the pH. It turns purple when lemon juice is added.
Their Kyoto sourced teas include the Matcha and Hojicha. Fascinated in trying the Strawberry Matcha and Purple Potato Matcha, and the Strawberry Hojicha.
Check out Y.E.L.O. Boba Shop at the Ground Floor of the New Building of Gaisano Mactan Island Mall, M.L. Quezon Highway Lapu-lapu City, Cebu. They are open from 10:00AM to 10:00PM daily.
